Catastrophic Health Care Fund Bill Introduced

I introduced a bill today which limits indigent medical services paid by the counties and state Catastrophic Fund to "emergency medical services." Presently the law provides care for "necessary medical services." The law has expanded coverage since about 1996 when it used to cover just emergency services. Expense to the CAT fund which comes out of Idaho state general revenues has mushroomed, necessitating a structural correction in the program. It is conservatively estimated that the bill will save at least $4 million per year, and probably more. The Association of Idaho Counties supports the bill.
