One Education Bill Fills Idaho House Morning – SB 1108 Passes 48-22

The Idaho House of Representatives spent the morning on SB1108 after Democrats made a procedural move requiring the reading of the entire 25 page bill. Once read, there was considerable debate over the bill which replaces teacher continuous contracts with 2 year renewable contracts, and which limits collective bargaining through the union to wage and benefit issues and where the union represents at least 50% of the teachers in a district. The bill also removes "evergreen" clauses which create perpetual provisions in district master contracts. After about 3 1/2 hours the House voted 48-22 to approve the bill. It will now go to the Governor.
