Idaho Owners’ Rights Building Code Amendment Moves Forward

I presented my bill HB207 to the House business committee today. The bill strengthens grandfather rights for existing buildings and was sent by the committee to the amending order. The bill protects against costly building code upgrades being required for unaffected parts of existing buildings undergoing expansion or alteration. Costly code upgrades which do not clearly involve a substantial safety hazard inhibit economic activity that might otherwise be generated through improvements and additions to buildings. A simple amendment will meet concerns regarding federally required accessibility issues under the ADA. Following amendment the bill will move forward for consideration by the full House of Representatives
