Idaho House Democrats Grandstand By Wasting Time

House Democrats today required the reading of a 25 page bill saving the state money on indigent care. The reading lasted over an hour. When it was all said and done, the bill passed unanimously, without any Democrat nays. The delay is a grandstand to force a couple of bills out of committee, including one to raise cigarette taxes by $1.25 per pack. The problem with that bill is that the increase is out of proportion to the market. Other states that have done this have actually seen decreased tax revenue as people go to other states or turn to the black market for lower cost product. Looks like we could end up spending more taxpayer money at $30,000 per day in a longer legislative session as the Democrats delay business and adjournment.
