Expecting Sine Die At Idaho Legislature

Today the House and then the Senate passed a new primary election bill to replace the law struck down by the Federal District Court during the legislative session. To comply with constitutional requirements, the bill provides for closed primaries, but allows the parties to voluntarily open their primary ballot to non-party voters. The House also killed the school bus advertising bill on a vote of 30-39. A bill lifting the charter school cap limits was tabled in the House after proponents distributed yellow fleece mufflers with "school choice" printed on them to the floor desks of the representatives. Ethical concern over the gifts just before the vote prompted the motion to table the bill. A final attempt to curb new wind generation projects in the House State Affairs Committee this morning also added drama to the day. That bill failed 11-8. With just a couple of appropriation bills remaining, adjournment or Sine Die, is expected tomorrow, Thursday, April 7th. It is time.
